Things to Know about the New Emergency Notification System

What is the emergency notification system?

The system allows you to sign up to get FREE emergency alerts on your cell phone, work phone, text message, e-mail, home phone, etc. You can also choose the locations you want to be contacted about, as long as those locations are within the boundaries of Larimer County.

Why is the system changing?

The old emergency notification system only called residents on traditional home phones. Over the last several years, many residents have done away with traditional phone lines and use cell phones as home phones. The new system gives Larimer public health and safety officials the ability to reach citizens when they’re on the go.

When will it be used?

The system will be used to notify residents about imminent threats to health and safety. Public safety officials will send alerts about emergencies such as wildfire, flood, gas leaks, or critical police activity.

How do I sign up?

You must sign up online at www.leta911.org. To receive alerts about more than one location, you will need to completely fill out the sign-up form for each address. For example, if you want to receive alerts about your home and your kids’ school, you need to register twice: once using your home address and once using the address of your children’s school.

Can I sign up if I don’t have a computer?

You do need a computer to sign up. If you don’t have a computer, public computers are available at your local library.

Will I still get emergency notifications if I don’t sign up?

If you don’t sign up, you will still receive notifications on your traditional home phone, but nowhere else.

What does it cost?

There is no cost to sign up. Emergency notification is a free service provided by the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority (LETA). LETA is funded through monthly surcharges on hard wire (traditional), wireless, or voice over internet telephone services. When calls are made to your cell phone, standard call and/or text messaging charges will apply.

What if my phone number or email address changes?

The system is only as good as the information you provide. If your cell phone, work phone or email address changes, you must go to www.leta911.org and update the information. The one exception is traditional landlines. If a traditional landlines changes to another landline number, that information will be automatically updated.

Will my contact information be shared with others?

No, the information that you provide will be used for emergency purposes only. LETA will not give or sell your telephone numbers or email addresses to any other vendor or organization.

Who is LETA?

LETA, the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority, is a partnership between 23 government and public safety agencies of Larimer County. LETA supports 9-1-1 emergency communications to make Larimer County emergency notification consistent and effective.
